Below is a list of investment tools and resources that I use which forms my investment system. Each service assists me in different aspects of my process, such as conducting research and due diligence, monitoring the market, looking for investment ideas, or understanding industries and trends. There is some overlap.
I believe in keeping things simple and only have the memberships or tools that are essential to my process. There’s an abundance of information out there, and I find what works best for me.
My use of a product or service doesn’t mean I recommend it nor endorse it. Every investor has different needs, circles of competence, and investment philosophies. Your investment tools and resources should complement your investment process.
Since I invest globally, my investment tools and resources may be more extensive than those who stick to index investing or remain invested in their home country.
Offline I centralise all my information, research, thesis, checklists and data. To do this I use OneDrive, Gsuite, Bookmarks, Excel spreadsheets, and Google Alerts and subscribe to every company I either own or am researching. Of course all of this is then added to one final place… here.
Brokerage Accounts
I’ve used this brokerage account since the first day I sarted and after 15 years it still suits my needs. I do not rely on brokerage accounts for research, analysis, or anything other than buying, selling and managing my holdings.
Interactive Brokers is a powerful global broker that I use for investing globally. I like the forex rates, the interest on holdings and the ability to manage your portfolio. I would say it is for more advanced investors looking to invest and trade globally.
Primarily used for ASX and NZE. It has a great community aspect to it where you can watch and monitor other investors as well as what stocks they are holding. I use this to take starter positions in certain companies before I take larger positions.
Vanguard is a great fund that I use only for ETF investing and through a retirement fund. I find the Dividend Reinvestment Plans, the dollar cost averaging and the simplicity of the platform a hassle-free way to invest. Keeping separate brokerage accounts for different goals makes it easier for long-term planning, taxation and overall portfolio management.
I use Primary Markets for all my investing in unlisted public companies. These are companies that are private and trade their shares on the platform. A large number are VC-backed and are in Pre-IPO stages. All though the platform has a lot of smaller emerging companies there are a lot of unicorns ($1b+) you can trade in.
Company Research and Analysis
Tikr Terminal is my go-to for stock research, analysis, monitoring other investors, filtering, screening earnings calls, creating watchlistsβ¦you name it. This is the place where I evaluate business during all phases of my process. Once I have found an investment idea this is the second place I start after reading the annual reports.
I use Bloomberg to help fill in the gaps for other research and information. It is the go-to place for finding the risk-free rate, 10-year bond and other key information I use for forecasting and DCF modelling.
Yahoo Finance is still a great place for information on companies, analysis, statistics, financials, and other key market information. I will use this alongside Tikr to form a better picture of a company especially micro-cap and small-cap companies where the information may be new, unpredictable and I need to cross check certain metrics.
Market and Industry Research
I find this a useful tool to explore and understand new trends and rapid market changes. This is helpful to find topics and trends that are about to take off. This is helpful when understanding Hyper-growth companies and new sectors or industries.
Great for market research and statistics, insights and facts across 150 countries and 170 industries. Very helpful when researching an industry, company TAM and country-specific information.
Another great tool that provides trusted industry research on thousands of industries worldwide. You can find insights and data on economic, demographic and various markets.
This market and industry website is fantastic for getting deep insights into how industries are evolving. It has great whitepapers, research analysis and very in-depth reports that can help investors expand their circle of competence into new areas.

Other Resources and Websites
Used for Australian companies and research on movements, market changes and trends. Quick and easy access to filings, news and economic activity in Australia.
Great for finding companies with MOATS and understanding their process. Good place to draw investment ideas, get up to date news and information.
Excellent platform to monitor filings of the top funds and investors. I use this to monitor the movements of fund managers that I like. It is good to watch and gain insight into skilled investors and how they take positions.
I use the US website, I find the community boards, insights into growth-focused business and the industry deep dives very helpful. Great analysts and an easy way to keep up with what is happening primarily in the US. I gravitate to the style of investment that Tom and Dave both practice.
If you are an Australian investor or investing in Aussie stocks this is the place to be. Great forum and boards for all the companies and, a great place for “Scuttlebutt” and gaining research, insights and information that will not be found on other financial sites.
Another great platform where I often navigate for information on valuation, analytics, and company risks. It provides a very fast way to look at a company and visualise its performance. I have found information here that was not found elsewhere. Another key to in-depth research.
In Conclusion
These are all the investment tools and resources I currently use. Some more than others, but at some stage during my process, each one plays an important role. When conducting research or forecasting, I try to find consistency in certain metrics. However, I have found that one website may have a different ratio or beta than another. Therefore, in cross-checking, I try to ensure I am taking the average.
Not all analyst and financial websites are accurate, which is why I have a handful of sites that I can navigate around. Other investors like to use social media, such as Twitter and forums like Reddit which may be useful, I just don’t use them.
The forums mentioned are primarily used to quickly dismiss an idea. I use them to find opposing views of a company or trend. Understanding how others think and a new perspective helps me fill in any gaps or biases I may have.
